Cervical 6: Tonsils

A study involving children under both medical and chiropractic care found that the children under chiropractic care were significantly less susceptible to tonsillitis. It was also found that children under chiropractic care had fewer ear infections than children under medical care -- 80% reported occurrence for medical patients, 31% for chiropractic patients. Chiropractic kids used fewer antibiotics and other medications and had fewer allergies than children with medical-only care.

The further you dig into what chiropractic really does for the body, the more amazing it becomes. Most of our society has been short changed into thinking of chiropractic as a kind of alternative back pain therapy. The effects of properly aligning the spine and removing interference patterns from the central nervous system improves brain function, organ function, immune function and overall well being in a way that nothing else can.

Children under regular chiropractic care experience nearly 40% fewer cases of tonsillitis and over 60% fewer cases of ear infection than children under medical-only care.

We have tonsils for a reason. Not simply as another "extra" organ to be removed. There are rare cases where surgical removal is in the best interest of the child. But for the most part, when children receive proper chiropractic care throughout their life they are able to remain healthy without the need for drugs or surgery. And isn't that a better choice for any parent?

Lower cervical subluxation is largely associated with tonsil problems. However, there is also medical research associating upper cervical subluxation. In the osteopathic literature we find the following comment from Dr. Irvin Korr: “Taking the case history in patients with vertebrogenic disturbances, I was so struck by the high incidence of chronic relapsing tonsillitis that I took a random sample of 100 cases from my files and found that 56 had a history of chronic relapsing tonsillitis or tonsillectomy for that reason, while only 44 had no or only incidentally tonsillitis."[1] Dr. Karel Lewit reported: "37 children with chronic tonsillitis were treated by manipulation. Tonsillitis disappeared in 25 of them. "Tonsillitis goes hand in hand with movement restriction in the craniocervical junction." Also from Lewit: "Of 76 children with chronic tonsillitis and movement restriction at the craniocervical junction, 70 had spinal dysfunction between the occiput and atlas. 37 children who had not been operated on were given manipulation and were followed up for 5 years. 67.6% were cured of tonsillitis entirely, the remainder relapsed and were treated again with manipulation. 25 had their tonsils surgically removed, but 19 of these still suffered from movement restriction after surgery, requiring manipulation for relief."[2] Dr. Gottfried Gutmann, a german osteopath reported on an 18-month-old boy with recurring tonsillitis, frequent enteritis, therapy resistant conjunctivitis, chronic colds, rhinitis, ear infections and sleep disturbances. "Immediately after [spinal adjustment] the child demanded to be put to bed and for the first time slept peacefully to the next morning. Previously disturbed appetite normalized completely. Conjunctivitis cleared completely."

From the chiropractic research we find: "Two hundred pediatricians and two hundred chiropractors that were randomly selected and sent a survey to determine any differences were to be found in the health status of their respective children as raised under different health care models. Nearly 43% of the medical children had suffered from tonsillitis, compared to less than 27% of the chiropractic children. Lower antibiotic use and lower incidence of disease was also reported in the chiropractic children."[3]

If your children aren't getting regular chiropractic care you've got to ask yourself please seriously consider it. Blocked nerve function in the body doesn't always show up as an obvious symptom. It often develops silently, like a cavity, until it has already done its damage.
